A Siren's voice

It's been a year since my last update. I have a month of summer break to spend on stuff I probably won't be able to do when my clerkship starts.

First of is reading novels. I'm not sure if I can squeeze some reading time pa kaya I'm trying to read more books as much as I can. Haha.

Second would be blogging. Ever since our Ilocos trip, I kept on thinking about this baby blog of mine. Being in blog-hiatus is finally done and over. I'm officially back! I just need new interesting bagay bagay that I can blog about and not only the medical experiences I will be encountering in the next years to come. I have a mini list on my mind though, which would include the books I'll be reading, movies I'll be watching, my planner stuff (new!!! eeek), music I listen to and sports updates! I'm still debating if blogging about medicine is proper. Hmmm.

Anyhoooo, I'm here to write a review about my recent read, Siren by Kiera Cass. I'm a huge fan of Kiera and her The Selection series. I blogged about those books more than a year ago (you can scroll to previous posts to see).

Siren is not part of the The Selection series by the way and I don't think that it'll be a part of any soon. But the book cover shares the same idea as the The Selection series. Lovely ladies with very very pretty dresses. Just look at the cover. Gaaaah so pretty!!! <3

The funny thing is at first I thought this was a story about mermaids. Kasi nga siren diba. Haha. As I read through the first chapter, mermaid pa rin iniimagine ko, until I realized that they're not mermaids, they're humans! Who sings very lovely. Hahaha.

To cut the long story short, plus I don't want to spoil anyone, here's a quick summary of the book.

The protagonist is named as Kahlen, the Ocean made her a Siren. She gets to live for 90 years without getting old. The Ocean is her "boss/mother" together with other Sirens, girls same as her. The sirens' job is to sing to a cruising ship whenever the Ocean is hungry. All the people in that ship will die once they hear the Sirens' voice. The sirens live like normal human beings but they are forbidden to speak because their voices are deadly or are poison to humans. Until one day, Kahlen fell in love with a human boy. They hang out but she can't speak or else Akinli (the guy) would die. (See how difficult that would be huhu forbidden love) Kahlen only has 11 years left of service as Siren then she can be a normal human again. But can love wait? Sure Akinli will get older in 11 years, but not her.

Basta! Obviously, I will leave you hanging there. You have to read it for yourself to find out what happened next. It got a little boring midway but gets better as it ends.

I guess that's all for now. I'm currently reading Glass Sword, now that's a better book! So you wait till I blog about it. :P

I miss ya'll.

Adios,
Kristine xx

5 Lessons You Will Learn from Love, Rosie

I've been eyeing this movie since its first trailer release. A Lily Collins and Sam Claffin movie? Very clever! A really must-see movie. <3

Was able to see the movie last friday night since I was celebrating a "chill-no-school-related-friday-night" that time =)) I was enjoying the whole movie until I found myself crying towards the end. Huhu movies like this always make me cry T____T

It's a movie based on Cecila Ahern's novel :)

1) When you have someone whom you can share your weird dreams with, keep them close.
In the movie, Rosie (Lily Collins) is bestfriends with Alex (Sam Claflin). Back when they were still in their gradeschool days, Alex would usually have weird dreams about himself being someone else like he's a superhero, an animal and the like. He would usually share these dreams with Rosie, and being the best bestfriend that she could be, she listens and understands him well. They have this connection no one else has. They perfectly get each other. When they grew older, Alex shared one of his weird dreams with his current partner, and she couldn't get it, so he had to share it with Rosie who is in the other side of the world and they were able to laught it all out. See? Sometimes you just need that one person and you're all good. :)

2) Life is good when there's a mixture of party, drinks, grass and sun.
As young adults, partying and drinking would always be a part of it. Like during Rosie's 18th birthday party, where she and Alex had their first kiss which changed everything. On the contrary, silence and fresh air should also be a part of it. A little walk in the grass while embracing the heat of the sun sounds okay when you're trying to relax. A world outside the noisy walls from partying.

3) Don't be ashamed raising your child as a single parent.
Rosie had her first born when she was 18. She was unable to go to college because she had to attend to her daughter. She had to raise her alone, though she has her family, still her daughter's father could've been there to support Rosie but he wasn't there. Rosie was very supportive and very hands on. She was able to grew a beautiful and loving daughter in the best mom-ways she could do. It was nice seeing Rosie and her 5-year old child doing cartwheels by the beach. They looked so happy even if it's just the two of them. :) It's okay to be a single parent as long as you have to be strong like Rosie. Would you rather be alone and raise a good-willed child or be with someone who could just ruin the bond you have with your child?

4)  Everyone deserves a second chance, but be careful.
When Katie's (Rosie's daughter) father returned, he begged Rosie for a second chance and that he'll be a good father to Katie and a better husband to Rosie. Rosie gave her a second chance end eventually they got married. Until he cheated on Rosie. When you ask for a second chance, you should make the most out of it prove it to them four times because not everyone is given a second chance. It's also hard to give someone a second chance after all that they've done to you. One would think that, he already did this to me and he could do it again if I give him another chance and it would hurt twice as bad. Giving a second chance increases the chance of getting stabbed twice with the risks you offer being doubled.

5) It's okay to fall in love with your best friend, as long as it's at the right time.
The movie basically revolves around this. Rosie being best friends with Alex, both of them in love with each other but they're too afraid to show/tell it because they might loose the close friendship they have. What's at stake is so crucial, you may fall in love with your best friend and if the feeling is mutual you'll be so happy about it but when the feeling is not mutual, you loose the friendship and be in awkward state forever until you get over it. Some say it's haaaaaaaaard falling for your best friend, but if the time is right, it could be the most right thing you could ever made. <3 But how can you tell when the right time is? When the world conspires to keep you two together? No one really knows.

Sorry for the bits of spoilers. Tried to minimized it and this is the best that I can do. So, enjoy the movie! :)

Love, Kristine

That Thing Called Tadhana movie review

Tadhana. Do you guys believe in tadhana? How about soulmate?

I was watching Friends the other day when Pheobe asked Monica, Chandler and Rachel about their thoughts about soulmate. What do you think?

Suddenly showing na pala yung That Thing Called Tadhana movie! Last year ko pa to inaabangan! Poster palang I knew it would be a hit. Tapos just this Sunday, feb 1, I was watching tv while ironing my uniform. Cinema 1 keeps featuring this movie. So I told myself, I. MUST. SEE. THIS. MOVIE. THE. SOONEST! And within 3 days showing na nga siya! And yes, I watched it on its release day. Woohoo! :D

Before you continue I should warn you that this may contain spoilers, a lot of emotions and a whole lot more of hugot. So if you think that you will not be able to handle them, you can always press x and come back after you see the movie. J

One more thing, PLEASE DO NOT JUDGE ME.

Unang-una sa lahat, bakit nga ba sobrang gusto kong panoorin tong movie na to? As in soooooooooobrang atat na atat na akong mapanood to. Isa lang yan, alam kong sobra akong makakarelate. At yun nga!

Hello? Ako kaya si tanga! First year college? 1E1 days? Remember? Basta yun J)

Ang daming hugoooooot. At advices on life. Oops lovelife pala.

One More Chance.
Oh diba? Kaya kalimutan mo na yan! When one door closes two other doors open!

Baggage.

Haha. Kaya please bundok please. :P

Travel.
Yun nga. From Italy to Manila to Baguio to Sagada. Sarap mag adventure lalo na kung biglaan.

Shooting star.
Pag may nakita kang shooting star anong iwiwish mo? Ako, sana bumalik ka na. Chos! World peace! Chos! Sana pumasa ako ng 2nd year med. At gusto ko rin pala mag-camping under the stars <3

Heart pierced through an arrow.
Parang pag-ibig diba? Hihi.

8 years.
2 years? 8 years?

Pagnilalamig ka, pwede to. Salamat Tadhana! J

Where do broken hearts go.
Pucha buong araw ko atang kinakanta tong kanta na to. Malala maka-LSS. ”Where do broken hearts go, can they find their way home…And if somebody loves you, won’t they always love you.”

Come what may nalang!

Ending? Bitin! Haha.

More on advices siya and may konti ring kilig. Halo-halong emosyon talaga to.

Happy love month!

<3 Kristine

Taylor Swift's 1989 album feedback

Can't help but feel more love for Taylor Swift's new album 1989. Every lyric, every tune, every beat is so perfect. Every song is different and each has a unique message.

Started listening to the songs right after the album was out on iTunes about a week ago and I almost memorize all the lyrics already. Haha! Why is it so hard to memorize drugs and diseases when it is this easy to memorize song lyrics just by listening to them again and again? Oh the irony of life. But can't argue with that.

I don't know if you guys noticed it but I've been tweeting a lot of TS 1989 lyrics since her album came out, like A LOT OF LYRICS. So don't get me wrong if I tweet deep quotes or stuff, they're just lyrics. Haha. I tweet to much lyrics all the time anyway. Don't take them personally. :P

I just thought that I have to share the top 5 songs that I liked best from her 1989 album, though I like EACH AND EVERY SONG, I have to pick my top 5, though I have to admit I'm having a hard time trimming my list because I. LIKE. EVERYTHING.

BLANK SPACE

For me, this song is like taking a risk for a new love. Taylor's like asking, will this be a forever forever or the one that will burn with flames kind of love? But I don't care let's just go for it kind of.

This song hits me fast like how a bullet hits you. The first time I heard it, I knew right then that this will be my favorite 1989 single. Not only that this is my favorite 1989 song, this song is now on my list for one-of-my-all-time-favorite-songs. Yay! This shall be next to Paramore's That's What You Get :)

Too much feels on this song. I think I listened to this song more than 50 times already since I first heard it. Yup. It's on repeat right now.

Favorite line from the song: You're the King baby, I'm your Queen.

ALL YOU HAD TO DO WAS STAY

Word. This is Taylor singing for the typical girls out there who were left out by stupid guys who left for undefined reasons. Hey guys, let me tell you a little secret, girls tend to be "emotional" at times but sometimes you have to accept that and just be there for them. And they would appreciate that. But once you lost that trust, she'll be gone forever before you even know it.

Favorite line from the song: All you had to do was stay, had me in the palm of your hand then why'd you had to go and lock me out when I let you in.

STYLE

I read somewhere that Taylor composed this song inspired by Harry Styles. Which if you have time to read the lyrics, are of good things and not of bitterness naman. It's a different TS song like a Miami-vice kind of ambiance, very Harry Styles style. And when you listen to the lyrics, they practically describes Harry.

Favorite line from the song: You got that James Dean day dream look in your eyes.

HOW YOU GET A GIRL

This one's a slow pop song I think, with its fast beat and all. It's a song she made for her guy fans like Taylor's teaching them how they can get a girl that they like and telling them how would it be like losing a girl that you like.

Favorite line from the song: I want you for worse or for better. I would wait forever and ever. Broke your heart, I'll put it back together.

YOU ARE IN LOVE

I love how chill this song starts. It's like you're inside a shelter beside a river and you can hear the water running while you're alone with the one you love. And just by listening to it, you'll feel in love even though you really are not. And there's a part somewhere near the ending where it feels so magical like I can imagine two people who are unaware of what they feel between each other suddenly felt each other's sparks. So lovely! <3

Taylor describes the feelings and emotions one would feel when you're in love. If the things she said here basically describes what you feel right now, then I think you're in love too. And go for it! You only have like what few years to live and you'll just let it slip away? Take the chance! Take the risk!

Favorite line from the song: You can hear it in the silence. You can feel it on the way home. You can see it with the lights out.

I don't know man but her songs are like my source of oxygen right now. I. LOVE. THEM. TOO. MUCH.

PS.
I was supposed to attach a lyric video of the songs from youtube but youtube won't let them play. Anyway, just youtube them and listen to them coz they're all perfect! :)
